CF8M is the cast equivalent of wrought SS 316 (ASTM A351). Both contain 16–18% Cr, 10–14% Ni, and 2–3% Mo. The difference is manufacturing: CF8M is cast, while 316 is typically wrought (bar/plate). For butterfly valves, CF8M casting is the industry standard — it offers the same corrosion resistance and is more cost-effective for complex geometries.
