Forged valves (per API 602) are made from a solid billet of stainless steel, giving a dense, fiber-free grain structure that handles higher pressure (Class 800+) and resists hydrogen embrittlement. Cast valves are poured into a mold — they are more economical for large sizes (6"+), but porosity and inclusions can occur. For high-pressure, corrosive, or critical service, forged is the preferred standard.
Yes. Thriveon offers NPT threaded ends per ASME B1.20.1 on Class 150, 300, 600, 800, 1500, and 2500 forged gate valves. For Class 1500 and above, we recommend socket weld or butt weld for optimal pressure retention, but threaded is available with full pressure rating as long as the thread engagement meets ASME B31.3 requirements.
