A: A lug-style butterfly valve is specifically designed for dead-end service. It has threaded inserts (lugs) that allow the valve to be bolted directly to a flange on one side while the other side can be disconnected without depressurizing the entire system—ideal for maintenance isolation.
A: A wafer valve is centered between two flanges and relies on the full pipe system for clamping. A lug valve has threaded lugs that allow it to serve as an isolation point (dead-end service). For applications where downstream pipe removal is needed, a lug valve is the correct choice.
