A lug type valve has threaded inserts (lugs) on both flanges, allowing it to be installed with bolts and nuts. It can be used for dead-end service — meaning you can remove the downstream pipe without depressurizing the system. Wafer valves slide between flanges and cannot support dead-end service. For maintenance flexibility, lug type is the preferred choice.
