A full bore (full port) ball valve has a ball with a bore diameter equal to the pipe inner diameter, providing unrestricted flow and minimal pressure drop. A reduced bore valve has a smaller ball port, typically one pipe size smaller, which increases velocity and pressure loss. For applications requiring maximum flow or pigging capability, full bore is required.
