A foot valve is a specialized check valve installed at the bottom of a pump suction line. Its primary job is to hold the prime by preventing water from flowing back down the pipe when the pump stops. It also includes a built-in strainer to filter debris. Without a functioning foot valve, your pump will lose its prime and run dry, causing rapid seal and motor failure.
For standard residential well water, a durable brass or stainless steel 304 foot valve is recommended. For high-iron or acidic water conditions, we strongly recommend our 316L Stainless Steel model (TV-FV-01) to avoid corrosion. For municipal or high-pressure systems, our ductile iron flanged foot valve (TV-FV-02) offers superior strength.
