An ESDV (Emergency Shut-Down Valve) is a safety-critical valve designed to automatically isolate a section of piping or equipment when an emergency condition is detected. Unlike a standard manual or actuated ball valve, an ESDV includes a fail-safe actuator (spring-return or hydraulic), position feedback, and is rated for SIL 2/3 safety integrity levels. It must close within a defined time window — typically 1–5 seconds — and provide bubble-tight shut-off even under full line pressure.
All Thriveon emergency shutdown valves are designed and tested to API 6D, API 607 (fire-safe), and API 598. We also offer NACE MR0175/ISO 15156 compliance for sour gas service, and our actuators are available with SIL 3 certification per IEC 61508.
