A socket weld (SW) connection involves inserting the pipe into a recessed area (socket) of the valve, then fillet welding the pipe to the valve body. It provides a strong, leak-free joint suitable for high pressure and high temperature applications, unlike threaded connections which rely on sealing threads.

Threaded (NPT) valves rely on thread engagement and sealant, making them susceptible to leakage under vibration and thermal cycling. Socket weld valves are welded permanently, offering superior mechanical strength and a leak-tight seal. SW is recommended for Class 300 and above, or where toxic/hazardous fluids are handled. SW is generally considered more reliable than threaded for critical services.
Standard dimensions follow ASME B16.10 (face-to-face) and ASME B16.11 (socket weld end dimensions). For a 1" Class 800 Gate Valve: Socket Depth is typically 0.62", Entry Bore is 1.31", and Wall Thickness meets ASME B16.34. We also provide full dimension drawings for your piping engineering team upon request.
Yes. We manufacture socket weld valves in ASTM A182 Grade F304, F304L, F316, and F316L. We also offer Duplex (F51) and Super Duplex (F55) for highly corrosive environments. PMI testing is standard to verify material chemistry.
Our standard MOQ is 10 pieces for stock items. For OEM custom socket weld valves, MOQ is 50 pieces. However, for sample testing and qualification, we offer 1-2 pieces at a reasonable sample cost (refundable with bulk order).
We use precision CNC machining for all socket weld ends. Internal diameters and counterbore depths are held to tight tolerances (±0.005"). Each valve is checked with go/no-go gauges before assembly. Dimensional inspection reports are available.
