A three way hydraulic valve (typically a ball or plug valve) has three ports and is used to divert, mix, or select flow paths. The ball features either an L-shaped or T-shaped passage. Rotating the stem aligns the passage with different ports to control the direction of hydraulic fluid.
An L-port valve allows flow from a common inlet to one of two outlets (diverter). A T-port valve allows flow from one inlet to two outlets simultaneously, or mixing from two inlets to one outlet. For hydraulic diverting, L-port is standard. For mixing or full bidirectional flow, use T-port.
