In a pressure seal design, the bonnet seal uses internal system pressure to tighten the seal — the higher the pressure, the tighter the seal. Bolted bonnet valves rely on gasket compression bolts, which can relax under thermal cycling. Pressure seal valves are preferred for Class 900 and above, especially in steam and high-temperature services.
