An inlet butterfly valve is primarily used for isolating flow at the inlet of pumps, compressors, heat exchangers, and other rotating equipment. It provides bi-directional shut-off and flow regulation, allowing safe maintenance of downstream equipment. Common in water, HVAC, and light process industries.
For dead-end service or where downstream removal is needed, a lug style is best (allows isolation without a downstream flange). For general inline isolation between two flanges, wafer style is the most cost-effective. For high-pressure or larger sizes (>24″), flanged (FF/RF) provides the strongest connection.
