A hot tap valve (also called under-pressure tapping valve) allows you to connect a branch line to an active pipeline without shutting down the flow. It is installed on a welded or flanged fitting, then a tapping machine drills through the valve body to create the opening. The valve remains open during tapping and closes to isolate the branch.
