A high flow propane regulator is designed to deliver a high volume of gas (measured in BTU/hr) while maintaining stable outlet pressure. It is needed for equipment exceeding standard residential demands, such as commercial cooking equipment, industrial boilers, and propane vaporizers that require over 200,000 BTU/hr.
A single-stage regulator reduces tank pressure to delivery pressure in one step. It is simpler but can experience "droop" (pressure drop) as flow increases. A two-stage regulator uses a primary and secondary stage to deliver ultra-stable pressure regardless of tank pressure or flow rate. For most industrial applications, we recommend a two-stage configuration.
Add up the BTU/hr ratings of all equipment connected to the line. It is best practice to add a 20% safety margin to the total.
